THUNDER BAY — The Ministry of Northern Development, Mines, Natural Resources and Forestry has issued a Flood Warning for the Thunder Bay district.
The warning issued Tuesday will be in effect until May 30.
It's the result of a forecast of rain or possible showers in the area for five consecutive days, starting Wednesday night.
The ministry said 10 to 25 millimetres of rain are possible during this period.
It noted in a statement that even though water levels across the district have been slowly declining, they continue to be higher than normal for this time of year.
"Water levels and flows within the watersheds of interest are likely to increase based on the forecast precipitation as local inflow rates reverse their recent declining trend," the statement said.
The ministry advises residents in the Kaministiquia River, Dog Lake, Shebandowan Lake, Kashabowie Lake and Lac des Mille Lacs watersheds to exercise caution around less-travelled roads, bridges, water-crossings, lakes and rivers, as prolonged periods of high water are expected.
It said it will continue to monitor conditions, and will issue further updates as required.
