Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry news release follows:
There were no new fires in the Northwest Region by the afternoon of May 16. FireRanger training continues at all fire bases.
The forest fire hazard is low across the region.
Sectors north of Sioux Lookout and Red Lake are forecast to receive heavy wet snow with a strong north-easterly wind and temperatures just around freezing. In the southern sectors the temperature is forecast to stay in the low teens with rain and thunderstorms and a risk of isolated severe thunderstorms for the Lake of the Woods in the Kenora District.
The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services program is reminding people that they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario including no day burning of brush or grass fires. Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
