Forest fire season could pick up, Thunder Bay sits at extreme hazard level

The slow fire season may start to pick up according to the Ministry of Natural Resources as the Thunder Bay area sits with an extreme hazard level.

Information officer Debbie McLean said in the last three days 40 new fires have started, but only one near Lake Nipigon required ground and air attack.

She said most were caused by lightning.
