The fate of the former Port Arthur General Hospital has been decided and the vacant building is coming down.

Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre issued requests for proposals from demolition companies last week. The 106-year-old hospital has been on the market for $950,000 for years but hasn't sold. The building was vacated when the Health Sciences Centre opened six years ago. Senior vice president of corporate services Scott Potts said the building is a liability and needs to go.

Potts said the demolition could happen as early as April. Once the facility comes down, they will look at selling the property or developing it with a partner said Potts. Proposals are being accepted until March 5.
