Former Thunder Bay city councillor Lorne Allard dies at 84

Well-known Thunder Bay businessman and politician Lorne Allard has died at age 84. Allard served three terms on city council, representing Red River Ward from 1989 to 2000.

Well-known Thunder Bay businessman and politician Lorne Allard has died at age 84.

Allard served three terms on city council, representing Red River Ward from 1989 to 2000. A member of the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame, he was a tireless supporter of the local sports scene, leading to his induction in the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame.

Allard coached hockey, baseball, boxing and track and field. According to his biography on the City of Thunder Bay website, he was instrumental in helping secure donated materials from building-supply companies to help recreational facilities throughout the community, including Castle Green, George Burke Park, Kinsmen Northwood Park, the Lakehead Canoe Club and Fisherman’s Park in Current River.

In 2012 Allard was one of 30 local citizens honoured with a Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal.
