A rising country singer who was born in Thunder Bay has been nominated for a Canadian Country Music Award.

Jaida Dreyer, 24, received the news this week that she's one of five nominees for Female Artist of the Year.

A native of Thunder Bay, Dreyer moved to Iowa when she was about 10 years old, and comes back to Thunder Bay often to visit family.

She recently signed with Sony Records and released her first album, titled I Am Jaida Dreyer in February.

She's up against some big names in the category, including Terri Clark, Michelle Wright and Carolyn Dawn Johnson.

The CCMA's will be hosted in Edmonton in September.

But city residents will get a chance to see Dreyer before that. She's scheduled to perform at the Canadian Lakehead Exhibition on August 10 and 11.
