Fort Frances man charged for discarding a needle

The charge was laid under the Safe Streets Act.

FORT FRANCES, Ont. — Ontario Provincial Police charged a resident of Fort Frances after he was caught discarding a used syringe in a back alley.

The incident happened on Friday.

OPP said they were tipped off about a suspicious male in a laneway behind Scott Street.

Officers observed a man tossing an uncapped needle on the ground.

The 29-year-old was charged under Ontario's Safe Streets Act with disposing of a needle in a public place.

Before leaving the scene, the officers ensured the syringe was disposed of safely, and checked to make sure there were no other needles in the vicinity.
