RED LAKE, Ont. – A 20-year-old Fort Frances man has been charged with drug-impaired driving following a traffic stop.

Ontario Provincial Police was on patrol on Sunday around 7:24 p.m. in the Municipality of Red Lake.

According to a release, officers conducted a traffic stop along Highway 105 and smelt freshly burnt cannabis coming from the vehicle.

Police say the officer made a demand for the driver to complete a standard field sobriety test.

The driver was subsequently arrested for impaired operation by drug and was then taken back to detachment to be evaluated by a drug recognition expert.

As a result, a 20-year-old Fort Frances man was charged with operation while impaired by drugs and was released by way of a promise to appear in Red Lake court on Aug. 15 to answer to the charges.
