NAPS

FORT SEVERN, Ont. - A man is in serious but stable condition after being shot by a Nishnawbe Aski Police Service (NAPS) officer during what that agency calls "a life-threatening altercation." The incident occurred Thursday in Fort Severn First Nation, located more than 800 kilometres north of Thunder Bay on Hudson Bay.

In a release, NAPS says the man fled the scene after being shot, but was later located and taken into custody by NAPS officers and OPP Emergency Response Teams members. The adult male has since been transported out of the community with serious, but stable injuries.

Nishnawbe Aski Police say they have initiated an investigation and requested assistance from the OPP in investigating the officer's actions.
