FORT WILLIAM FIRST NATION — Fort William First Nation will operate without an acting chief for the next six months or so.

Michael Pelletier, the CEO, says council cannot appoint a chief.

He said there must be an election, and since the next one is relatively close, the community will operate without a chief until April 2023 rather than holding a byelection.

Chief Peter Collins left his post on Sept. 18 to lead an Indigenous construction company taking on a major transmission line project in Northwestern Ontario.
