THUNDER BAY -- Another incumbent city councillor has signaled his intention to seek another term in office.

Current River Coun. Andrew Foulds, who has held the ward since 2006, on Tuesday announced on social media he will seek a fourth term in office on Oct. 22.

Foulds is the first candidate to throw his name into the ring in Current River.

"We live in serious times and we need serious leadership," the veteran representative said in a video announcing his candidacy posted to his Facebook page.

"I would be honoured to be a part of a city council that will lead us over the next four years. We must continue to invest in strong neighbourhoods, making sure they're safe and livable."

Foulds pointed to the newly installed splash pad at the North End Community Centre as an example of how he's helped build better neighbourhoods in Thunder Bay.

"We must make sure our families and our children have healthy and safe places to go. Investment in our parks and our recreational facilities must be increased.

"Activities such as the Muskeg Express make a difference for families."

Other incumbents who have filed to run include Aldo Ruberto in the at-large race, Joe Virdiramo in Westfort, Shelby Ch`ng in Northwood, Linda Rydholm in Neebing and Brian McKinnon in Red River. McKellar Coun. Paul Pugh has declared he won`t seek another term, setting up what at the moment is a five-horse race for the vacancy.

At-large Couns. Iain Angus and Larry Hebert have filed to run for mayor, while many expect McIntyre's Trevor Giertuga to run at large, giving up the ward seat he's held since 1997.
