THUNDER BAY – More than three years after the fact, police have charged four people in the killing of 21-year-old Samatar Warsame.

The body of the Toronto victim was located on the shoulder of Highway 527 in Shuniah.

OPP, in a release issued on Friday, said they believe the four accused and the victim had a common interest.

Charged with first-degree murder are 25-year-old Kaveh Lozoomi-Garmroodi of Toronto, 29-year-old Hikomel Gary Joiles of Toronto, 43-year-old Stephan Richard Parr of Thunder Bay and 33-year-old Amy Rose-Podnar of Thunder Bay.

“Any investigation's goal is to provide resolution to the victim's family and friends and to ensure the safety of the communities we serve. The success of this investigation is tempered somewhat knowing Samatar's family continues to live with this loss in their lives,” said Det.-Insp. Darryl Sigouin, the OPP’s major case manager in its criminal investigations branch, in a release issued on Friday.

All four accused have been remanded into custody, pending their next court appearance.

Police say the 40-month investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information is asked to phone 1-800-222-8477 or CrimeStoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
