Four new COVID-19 cases in the Thunder Bay district

The active caseload falls to 24.

THUNDER BAY — The number of active cases of COVID-19 in the Thunder Bay district edged downward over the holiday weekend.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit reported four new cases, and the resolution of five previously diagnosed cases.

This brought the caseload down to 24. 

Since November 2020, the number of active cases has only reached this level on one other occasion – May 19.

Among the new cases, one involves travel outside Northwestern Ontario, one resulted from close contact with an infected person, one has no known exposure source, and one is still under investigation.

The TBDHU also said it had identified five additional cases with Variants of Concern.

The number of district residents receiving treatment for COVID-19 in hospital remained unchanged from Saturday at five, with none being in the ICU.
