DRYDEN, Ont. — The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reports four new fires were discovered Tuesday in the ministry's Northwest Region.

Two outbreaks occurred on Wabaseemoong Independent Nation in the Kenora district.

The other fires were located 17 kilometres southeast of Ignace, and 31 kilometres northwest of Ignace.

The blazes ranged between 0.1 and 1.0 hectares in size, and all have been declared out.

Currently across the northwest, the forest fire hazard is mainly high in the Thunder Bay, Dryden, Fort Frances, Kenora and Red Lake districts, and predominantly moderate in the Sioux Lookout and Nipigon sectors.

A Restricted Fire Zone, imposed last month as part of Ontario's efforts to deal with the COVID-19 outbreak, remains in effect across the province.

It means outdoor fires are prohibited, but the use of portable gas stoves is allowed.
