New forest fires reported in northwest

The forest fire hazard is predominantly high with areas of low to moderate hazard throughout the region.

THUNDER BAY -- Four new forest fires had been reported across the region by Sunday afternoon.

The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry reported that two of the fires, Thunder Bay 16 and Thunder Bay 17, located about 44 kilometres and 82 kilometres northwest of Thunder Bay are out at 0.1 hectares.

A third fire, Thunder Bay 18, is not under control at 0.4 hectares and is located near McWinney Lake, about 55 kilometres northeast of Thunder Bay.

A fourth fire, Fort Frances 18, is also not under control at 0.1 hectares and is located near Kindle Lake, about 75 kilometres northeast of Fort Frances.

As of Sunday afternoon, there were 32 active fires in the region. Two fires are not under control, two fires are being held, five fires are under control and 23 fires are being observed.

According to the MNRF, the forest fire hazard is predominantly high with areas of low to moderate hazard dispersed throughout the region.
