Franco-Supérieur celebrates Canada's birthday

Students from École Catholique Franco-Supérieur got to celebrate a day filled with Canada-themed festivities.

THUNDER BAY - École Catholique Franco-Supérieur capped off an exciting school year by celebrating Canada 150 in style.

Students from kindergarten to grade 6 students got to enjoy a day full of activities on Wednesday that included live music, Hawaiian attire, and a bouncy castle.

“It feels good to be Canadian,” said student Rylan Grenier.

“We don’t get this every year… but because it’s Canada’s birthday it’s awesome.”

“We’re very happy to be Canadian, and we're very happy to be Francophone,” said Patricia Brusset, principal of Franco-Superior.

“We can marry both sides of our culture very well.”

Brusset was also able to get some of her older students to come play live music for the kids.

Tamsyn Klazek-Schreyer is only one year removed from Franco-Supérieur, but relished in the opportunity to play the fiddle in front of her former peers.

“It’s really cool to come back here and see all my old friends,” Klazek-Schreyer said.

Klazek-Scheyer joined her parents who were hired to play for the school.

“We’re very proud to see them again,” Brusset said. “They stay with music, they stay with French. It’s a beautiful gift they receive from their parents to come to a French school.”

Although it was the first time the family performed in front of a crowd together, the musicians had students dancing their hearts out.

“I love it. I’ll probably play violin for the rest of my life now.”
