Free movies coming to Prince Arthur’s Landing
Tired of bringing a piece of sod to the theatre so you can watch a movie while sitting on grass?
The City of Thunder Bay wants to help you avoid the dirty hands and questionable looks from ushers by launching its own outdoor movie night at the Marina starting Friday, August 24. For the first time ever, people can bring their lawn chairs and blankets down to Prince Arthur’s Landing’s festival area to watch a free movie on a 28 foot inflatable screen.
“We wanted to try to animate the site down at Prince Arthur’s Landing,” City Event Supervisor Doug Henry said.
“This gives us another opportunity for people to come down and enjoy the waterfront.”
Henry said he’s expecting it to be a big hit.
“I think it will be pretty popular. I think people will want to wander down and check it out. I think we could easily see the crowds we see for summer in the parks,” he added.
The event will also feature concession stands and family activities. As for what the first movie will be, Henry said that will be decided in the next few days.
“It will be a combination of the classics and the recently released movies,” he said. “It’s a little difficult to know when you launch a new program like this what the demographics are going to be.”
The movie night will run every Friday night up to Sept. 14. The show will start at dusk. Because it is a public park, the event is alcohol free.
