WHITE RIVER, Ont. — A freight train caught fire early Wednesday morning near White River.
No one was injured.
Ontario Provincial Police say one railcar carrying hydro poles caught fire about three kilometres west of the community, at approximately 3:00 a.m.
Police initially were told the train had derailed, but when they arrived at the scene they found all the cars were still on the track.
Highway 17 was closed for a short period as a precaution while the situation was assessed.
Railway workers were able to separate most of the other cars from the burning unit.
The White River fire department and a Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry crew assisted in extinguishing the fire.
There's no word from the railway on the extent of damage, or how the fire started.
CP Rail issued only a brief statement late Wednesday afternoon, confirming that no one was hurt, and that no dangerous goods were involved.
