THUNDER BAY --  Lucie Allaire, the director of education at the Conseil scolaire de district catholique des Aurores boréales, is retiring.

Allaire has served in the role for the past eight years.

"We are fortunate to have had Mrs. Allaire with us for so many years," says board chair Sylvie Payeur, in a release issued on Wednesday.

"Our students, staff, parents and communities have benefited from her passion for French-language education and the importance she places on the well-being of all. She brought a richness that will remain firmly rooted in our board for years to come."

Allaire said the timing was right to turn the reins over to someone new.

"It has been a privilege to grow with an unparalleled team and organization that shares my core values of respect, integrity and loyalty," Allaire said.

"It is now time to pass the baton to a new generation and begin this next phase of my life, which will be spent enjoying nature with family and friends."

Mireille Major-Levesque, promoted last fall as the associate director of education, will take over following Allaire's June 30 retirement date.
