RED LAKE, Ont. - The municipality of Red Lake has declared a state of emergency due to a Friday storm.

In a media release issued on Saturday, Mayor Fred Mota said that due to the extreme wind conditions, municipal infrastructure has been damaged, along with the loss of hydro electricity, and numerous trees blocking roadways and driveways.

Hydro One reported 2,139 customers are affected, according to the Dryden-based radio station CKDR.

The release stated there were no injuries.

"I urge everyone to check in on their neighbours and assist people where possible during the power outage," says Mota.

"Please use caution when out on our streets. Municipal employees along with community partners are currently evaluating the situation and have commenced the cleanup."

Friday night's junior hockey league game between the Red Lake Miners and the Dryden Ice Dogs was cancelled.

Those requiring assistance and/or want to report a public safety concern, are encouraged to call the public works after-hours call-in number at 807-727-2597.
