Sleek and sexy; fun, fit and fresh; spooky; sassy and classy; oh so now, and wow!
For one night only the glamourous, adventurous and avant-garde models of Definitely Superior will be on their runway showing off unique wearable art, likely causing audience temperatures to rise a degree or two.
Derelicte 4: A Fashion Odyssey features new wearable works of art and an evening of non-stop motion, commotion and wonderment for those on the floor surrounding the catwalk.
Commissioned by Definitely Superior, seven local fashion houses together with 85 artists and models bring on the wearable art; then throughout the evening the prowess of these folks is augmented by four live bands, 30 eye-popping acts and entertainers, maybe some audience challengers revved for excitement in true derelicte-style.
Gallery director David Karasiewicz puts it succinctly.
“This is art off the wall and on the body; out of the white cubed gallery and in your face!”
“No, I don’t know what I’m wearing just yet,” said model Julia MacArthur with a light laugh ahead of her fitting before Saturday, “But I trust my designer Christian ¬Chap¬man.”
Visitors to local art galleries might already be familiar with this bright young artist’s compelling visual-conceptual talent.
Last year 500-plus participants from small independent businesses in downtown cores imagined something like this somewhere else: Toronto, Montreal, New York. What about in any climate on this globe?
“Definitely Superior Art Gallery’s artistic endeavours are focused at the very nexus of creating new and experimental works, acting to provide and increase opportunities for multi-disciplinary artists in our region. With the initiative to recreate and re-invent, Thunder Bay is an extraordinarily and uniquely creative place. Derelicte is an ever expanding and evolving event, where we embrace change with shared vision and artistry.”
