A recall of frozen mango products due to Hepatitis A contamination includes items sold in Ontario, health agencies warn.

The food recall warning from the Canadian Food Inspection Agency affects certain products sold under brands Nature’s Touch, Compliments, Irresistables, and President’s Choice.

The mango products are considered the likely source of a Hepatitis A outbreak in Quebec and Nova Scotia, with three cases confirmed so far. Leftover frozen mangoes were collected from the homes of ill individuals and tested positive for Hepatitis A.

An investigation by the Public Health Agency of Canada has confirmed at least three illnesses associated with a Hepatitis A outbreak in Quebec and Nova Scotia linked to the mango products, which are believed to have been sold in at least eight provinces.

In a public health notice, PHAC advises Canadians not to eat any of the recalled food products, and to wash and sanitize any drawers or shelves where recalled products were stored.

Anyone who suspects they have been exposed to the recalled products or is experiencing symptoms consistent with Hepatitis A should contact a health provider immediately.

Vaccination can prevent the onset of symptoms if given within 14 days of exposure, PHAC noted.
