Gas prices skyrocket ahead of long weekend

THUNDER BAY – Gas prices are approaching a decade-old Thunder Bay high, just in time for the May long weekend.

A trio of Esso stations around the city, including locations on Memorial Avenue, Arthur Street West and Dawson Road, have jacked their prices to $1.469 a litre, a seven-cent increase. That's about two cents a litre less than the city's previous high, set in 2008. 

Several other stations are selling regular unleaded gasoline for $1.446.

The least expensive gas in the city is going for 1.379 a litre, according to OntarioGasPrices.com.

THP Variety and Gas Bar on Fort William First Nation is selling its regular unleaded for $1.247.

The Ontario average is $1.33.
