THUNDER BAY – A trio of local Esso stations appear to be leading the charge to hike gas prices above the $1.40-a-litre mark.

The gasoline giant’s locations on Arthur Street West, Memorial Avenue and John Street road have raised the price at the pump on Thursday to $1.419 a litre, the highest in the city, a six cent jump over Wednesday.

Most stations are selling a litre of regular unleaded for between $1.343 and $1.359.

THP Variety and Gas Bar on Fort William First Nation is offering the lowest price in the area, charging motorists $1.197 per litre.

The Ontario average, according to ontariogasprices.com, is $1.307.
