THUNDER BAY – Facility-wide outbreaks of a gastrointestinal illness have been declared at Pineview Court and Roseview Manor.

In order to fight the spread of the illness, both senior facilities have cancelled all admissions, transfers, discharges and social activities until further notice.

Additionally, visitations are now restricted to family members and caregivers.

The Thunder Bay District Health Unit, in a release issued on Monday, says those feeling unwell should stay at home if possible and refrain from visiting hospitals, long-term care facilities and retirement homes to avoid spreading infections to the region’s most vulnerable – young infants and children, the elderly and those with chronic illnesses.

Frequent hand-washing can also help the effort, the release said.
