SHUNIAH, Ont. -- An 88-year-old Geraldton man is dead after a two-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway on Monday afternoon.

The collision between a black four-door car and blue pickup truck happened just after 4 p.m. at the intersection of Highway 11/17 and Spruce River Road, the OPP said in a Tuesday news release.

Investigators believe the car was travelling north on Spruce River Road when it pulled out in front of the eastbound truck, police said.

Jean Luc Beaudoin, the driver of the car, was taken from the scene by paramedics and was later pronounced dead. The driver of the truck, a 53-year-old Nipigon man, was taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
