Speakers at a local climate change conference Thursday are warning that the public must be prepared to adapt as we deal with the potential impacts of a warmer planet.
Climatologist and conference organizer Graham Saunders says everyone needs to be prepared for more severe weather and the possible disruption of the global food supply.
Saunders insists these are just two examples of the inevitable consequences that need to be accounted for, adding that people need to educate themselves about the issues and make policy makers aware of their concerns.
Saunders says this past decade was the warmest on record for Northwestern Ontario, for Canada and for the planet as a whole.
