Getting started

While there was a lot of red for Canada Day at Prince Arthur’s Landing, the parade was all green.

The parade, which marched its way from the Pearl Street entrance through the park to the overpass, featured cyclists, roller derby girls and all other types of community groups that focus on active lifestyles in the community. But once it was over, parade watchers were excited to tackle the array of not-so-healthy food offered up.

Shaun Bos was one of thousands flocking to the waterfront Monday evening to take in the live music, fireworks and, for Bos, at least one elephant ear.

“This is where everything is going on. It’s always a fun celebration,” Bos said. “We can all be together and celebrate the greatest country in the world.”

Crystal Hannafre agreed.

“Especially where we’re located. I think Thunder Bay is pretty awesome,” she said.

“It’s the most exciting day. You don’t have to cook because you can eat all the food out here, the fireworks are really fun and all the people, I just love the marina.”

What made it more exciting for Hannafre this year was getting to celebrate with her five-month-old daughter Chloe who giggled and stared as the parade went by.

The fireworks start at 11 p.m.
