Lynn Strey was patching a hole in her pants on Friday afternoon when she got a phone call from a friend telling her to grab her camera and head to Hillcrest Park.

Without bothering to even ask why, she dressed and hit the road running from Current River. The reward was a spectacular sight, a near perfect reflection of the Sleeping Giant in the waters of Lake Superior.

“Awesome,” was the word she used to describe what she saw.

“I shoot a lot of pictures, sunrises and sunsets, but I’ve never ever seen anything like that,” she said.

Strey wasn’t the only photographer taking time out of a sunny Friday afternoon to capture the moment digitally.

Gabrielle Ladouceur interrupted plans to take in and preserve the rare moment.

“It’s just amazing. I’ve never seen anything like it. I had to stop. I’m actually on the way to meet a friend and I had to stop just to look at it,” she said.
