Giertuga, Wolff file to run in municipal election

Trevor Giertuga has stepped away from the Mcintyre ward race and will instead seek an at-large seat, while Andy Wolff will take on Andrew Foulds for the second straight municipal election.

THUNDER BAY – Trevor Giertuga has made it official – he is leaving the McIntyre ward in someone else’s hands.

The longtime ward councillor will run in Thunder Bay’s municipal election, but has decided to enter the at-large race, making himself the sixth candidate to put his name forward.

First elected in 1997, Giertuga has held the McIntyre seat for 21 years.

He joins Tracey MacKinnon, incumbent Aldo Ruberto, Chris Krumpholz, Kim Ducharme and Diane Armstrong on the ballot.

In Current River, Andy Wolff is hoping the second time’s the charm.

Wolff, who finished runner-up to Andrew Foulds in 2014, will attempt to knock off the veteran councillor this time around.

Wolff also unsuccessfully ran for the Northern Ontario Party in the recent provincial election.

The deadline to file nomination papers is 2 p.m. on July 27.
