THUNDER BAY – While the City of Thunder Bay encourages residents to recycle, one thing they cannot put in their blue bags this holiday season is wrapping paper.

City officials say the highly-coloured gift wrap has a high ink content and therefore can’t be recycled.

Blue bags that contain wrapping paper will not be collected, nor will wrapping paper brought to the city’s recycling depots. Instead it must be put out with regular garbage.

People are encourage to find alternatives to wrap their gifts in, such as newsprint, decorative tins or boxes or reusable fabric gift bags.
