LONGLAC, Ont. — Members of Ginoogaming First Nation near Longlac have given another vote of confidence to their longstanding Chief, Celia Echum.

In the First Nation's council election last week, Echum received 66 per cent of the votes that were cast as she won her seventh consecutive term as Chief.

She was first elected to lead her community in 2007, having previously served as a band councillor and working in the band's administration for more than 25 years.

Echum says she is thankful for the support she's received, and plans to continue to work "towards continued health and wellness through land-based Anishnawbe culture and spirituality, economic development through partnerships with local industry...and the continued work on ongoing claims, including the Ginoogaming First Nation Treaty Land Entitlement claim."

Ginoogaming (formerly Long Lake 77 First Nation) has a registered population of 980, including 210 who reside in the First Nation located immediately south of Long Lake 58 First Nation and Longlac.
