Giving Tuesday Drive Thru Kettle at Lowerys

Lowery's partnered with the Salvation Army to host the first Giving Tuesday Drive Thru Kettle Program.

THUNDER BAY –The Salvation army teamed up with Lowery's this Giving Tuesday to help raise funds for the Nightly Soup Van Meal Program.

Lowery's partnered with the Salvation Army  on Nov. 30 and opened their parking lot to host the first Giving Tuesday Drive Thru Kettle Program raising funds for the Nightly Soup Van Meal Program from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

“This is our first year in collaboration with Lowery’s doing the drive through, and this is with the tap machine, so again, we’re really excited having this opportunity working with Lowery’s to do this,” said Gary Ferguson, Salvation Army Journey to Life Centre executive director.

“I think that Thunder Bay has such a warm heart and the community always gives. It’s great to see people getting out there and doing that.”

The event will feature the Salvation Army’s new tap kettles and hopes to raise money to repair the generator in the Salvation Army’s Soup Van which has provided hot meals to people living in poverty in Thunder Bay for years.

“Well, you know what, it’s all about the people, right? They serve over 100 people per day with the Soup Van and it’s a small part on our behalf and we’re very humbled to be part of this whole day, the first day of the tap, you know, something new for the Salvation Army,” said Ferguson.

“We’re just privileged to be a part of this. There’s not enough words to say, Giving Tuesday, it’s everywhere. And so we hope that the community and everybody around us embraces this day and comes out to help as much as they can.”

People who donate between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m. will receive a thank you Christmas cookie made with love from Salvation Army Chef Kevin assisted by the residents of the Journey to Life Centre. Santa’s elves (students from St. Ignatius Common Bonds class and Lowery's staff) will be visiting and helping throughout the day.
