THUNDER BAY — True Grit, an engineering firm headquartered in Thunder Bay, is being acquired by global engineering and design firm Stantec, Inc.
Edmonton-based Stantec announced Tuesday it has signed a letter of intent, and the deal is expected to be completed by the end of the year.
The announcement described True Grit as a "well-respected leader in infrastructure engineering, project management and planning, and environmental services."
True Grit, with about 65 employees, has regional offices in Sioux Lookout and Welland, Ontario.
Its clients include all levels of government, Indigenous communities, Hydro One and Resolute Forest Products.
Stantec said True Grit will strengthen its foothold in Ontario and provide opportunities to further develop buildings, transportation, water and mining expertise in the northwestern Ontario market.
Vice-president Eric Wiens said the company already has a longstanding relationship with True Grit through Stantec's Winnipeg office.
True Grit CEO Eric Zakrewski said joining Stantec will allow his company to offer world-class expertise and a wider variety of services to its clients.
