THUNDER BAY -- The Port of Thunder Bay continues to reap the benefits of record prairie grain crop.
The Port Authority says more than 965,000 tonnes of grain moved through the port last month. That's more than double the amount of grain shipped in June 2013.
It also puts grain shipments 35 per cent above last years pace.
The June grain activity boost overall shipping totals to more than 1 million tonnes for the second month in a row, volumes that haven't been seen in Thunder Bay since 2001.
Port officials say they expect grain traffic to remain strong throughout the summer as the 2013 harvest continues to move to market.
