The Grand Chief of Treaty 3 said she will file a complaint with the Independent Police Review Director.

Grand Chief Diane Kelly said she's not satisfied with the findings of a Special Investigation Unit report on the recent shooting of a Grassy Narrows woman by a Kenora OPP officer.

The incident took place June 7 when Kenora detachment OPP officers responded to a report of a domestic incident. At the scene the officer was confronted by a 39-year-old female wielding a knife, which resulted in shots being fired.

The woman was hit in the torso by a single shot and continues to recover from her wounds. She has been charged with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death.

The SIU-investigation concluded the shooting was justified, but Grand Chief Kelly said she's disappointed with that finding and what appears to be questionable policies and procedures followed by the Kenora OPP.

Grand Chief Kelly told Dougal Media reporters that she intends to file a complaint with the Independent Police Review Director by early next week.
