The trial of a Thunder Bay Police Service constable charged with 11 counts of breach of trust is now underway at the Ontario Court of Justice.

44-year-old Toni Grann was charged last year in connection with her role as local registrar of the Ontario Sex Offenders Registry.
Grann is accused of falsifying a number of records between 2005 and 2010. In court Monday, she pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Prosecutor Mark Huneault said a police investigation found 11 different sex offenders had information input into their files that was deceitful, incomplete or inaccurate.

The Crown plans to call four witnesses with expertise in the registry, along with several sex offenders whose files Grann was allegedly responsible for.

Grann's lawyer, Clay Powell, took issue with the Crown's use of the word "deceitful" regarding his client.

He said any errors she may have made were due to Grann having to work with a "seriously flawed" registry system, combined with the heavy workload placed on her by the city police force.

The trial is expected to last two weeks.
