Grass fire leads to arson charges against teens

Police have arrested and charged one 16-year-old and a 15-year-old.

THUNDER BAY -- Two teens have been charged with arson after allegedly setting a grass fire in the Castlegreen Drive area on Tuesday evening.

Thunder Bay Fire Rescue crews were required to extinguish the wildfire, which broke out just after 7 p.m. at the pathway that runs underneath Highway 11/17 behind Castlegreen Drive. Thunder Bay Police Service officers, who had been called to the scene, spoke with witnesses who assisted in identifying two suspects.

A 16-year-old was arrested and has been charged with arson and mischief while a 15-year-old has been charged with arson and breach of recognizance.

The pair are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
