GRASSY NARROWS FIRST NATION, Ont. — All drinking water advisories in effect for seven years for some residents of Grassy Narrows First Nation, about 50 kilometres northeast of Kenora, have finally been lifted.
Chief and Council announced last week that residential tap water no longer requires boiling.
The community had been affected by multiple drinking water advisories dating as far back as 2013.
According to a statement Monday from Indigenous Services Canada, upgrades to the water treatment system are now complete.
The federal government provided about $5 million for the project under the First Nations water and Wastewater Enhanced Program.
It also allocated $158,000 for a feasibility study, now nearing completion, which examines options for meeting the community's drinking water needs for the next 20 years.
