Greenstone council approved a plan to move forward with the construction of a new administration building.
The long-awaited project has a budget of about $3.5-million dollars.
Mayor Michael Power says he's pleased a decision has finally been made following more than a year of discussions. The current aging town hall has been deemed a health and safety concern by the Ministry of Labour. As a result, municipal staff has been moved into onsite trailers as a temporary solution.
Under the new plan, Greenstone will enter into an agreement with Longlac's RaLin Construction.
Power said the agreement will see Greenstone lease the new building from the contractor for a few years, and then purchase it out right. The plan calls for the facility to be built along Barton Bay at the entrance to Geraldton.
Construction is not expected to be completed until 2011. The temporary office trailers are being leased out at a cost of $125,000 a year.
