What started as an opposition to development in River Terrace is now an advocacy group for responsible development in Thunder Bay.

Circles for Change member Kelsey Agnew said the group formed after they met to figure out their plans on opposing a purchase of 13.5 hectares of land north of the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. While still concerned with the future of the greenspace, Agnew said the group wants to make sure city council develops Thunder Bay responsibly.

"We’re not anti-development we’re just pro responsible development," Agnew said. "Which in our eyes takes the environment into consideration."

The group plans to hold a rally outside of city hall Monday with T-shirts and signs telling council what their idea of Thunder Bay is. Agnew said while the group understands that city council has a big job governing the city, it shouldn’t forget that young people in the city also have a vision for Thunder Bay.

"Just because we’re young doesn’t mean we don’t understand what’s going on," Agnew said. "We love this city and we’re here because we want to see it be different. We want to make sure this doesn’t become another generic city."

The group, which also has a Facebook page, will meet at city hall at 5:30 p.m. Monday.
