ROSSPORT, Ont. – The group that manages the Rossport Marina is touting a three-year plan to restore and improve the facility.

Some of the major priorities in the Rossport Marina Scoping Plan include restoring or replacing the Rossport wharf, hiring a paid marina manager, aligning fees and services and other similar operations, and adding more parking.

The Rossport Dock Committee, the non-profit group that oversees the marina, announced the completion of the document Friday, made possible with support from Parks Canada and Ontario’s Superior Country, a non-profit tourism marketing agency.

Consultations helped inform the plan, including an online survey, stakeholder interviews, and an in-person session attended by over 20 people.

“We were really happy to see that many people come out, relative to our small population,” said Cathy Collinson, secretary/treasurer for the Rossport Dock Committee. “It shows how engaged our locals were in the process and how much they truly care about our marina.”

“That collaborative process has provided us with a pathway forward that when implemented, will result in a quality access point to Lake Superior – and the National Marina Conservation Area that is a growing attraction.”

The first step to implement the plan is already underway, the group said, through an engineering structural report on the wharf that is being completed through partnerships with the Superior North CFDC and Parks Canada.
