MNR officials say a group of women from the Grassy Narrows area prevented them from halting repair work on a bridge on the Segeisse Road.

The MNR has been threatening to levy large fines if the work isn't stopped.

But the protestors say the bridge is an essential link for access to their traditional territory and provides an alternate route out of the area in the event of fire, floods or other emergencies.

The Grassy Narrows blockade first went up nine years ago to prevent forest companies from logging in the area.
