THUNDER BAY - A Toronto-area youth facing drug trafficking charges in connection to a drug bust last month at an Ambrose Street residence will return to court next Monday.
The 16-year-old youth who cannot be named due to provisions in the Youth Criminal Justice Act appeared briefly by video in Thunder Bay bail court on Monday, June 15.
Duty Counsel Aranka Golphy who spoke on behalf of the teen’s lawyer, Richard Garrett, requested for the teen to be remanded in custody to next Monday to set a date for a bail hearing.
The request was endorsed by Justice of the Peace Zelda N. Kitchekeesik.
The boy was arrested alongside six other people after police responded to a call at an Ambrose Street residence on May 24.
Thunder Bay police allege a group of drug traffickers had taken over the residence.
A police investigation resulted in the seizure of suspected crack cocaine valued at $9,000 and cash believed to be more than $5,000, according to a police news release.
The teen’s charges include two counts of possession for the purposes of trafficking, proceeds of crime over $5,000, being unlawfully in a dwelling house, and mischief under $5,000.
The youth is slated to appear back in court on June 22.
