Gulbinowicz joins McIntyre race

At-large, school board races also grow.

THUNDER BAY – A third candidate has emerged in the McIntyre ward race.

Adam Gulbinowicz filed his nomination papers on Wednesday, joining first-time hopefuls Albert Aiello and Wesley Ramage in the hunt to replace long-time Coun. Trevor Gierturga, who is running for an at-large seat in 2018.

Gulbinowicz says he’s got a blueprint for success to help build a prosperous present and future for Thunder Bay.

Clear strategies and policies need to be implemented to achieve a positive vision for our city to help it flourish socially and economically,” he said in a campaign release.

“The focus should be on engaging with residents and groups on a wide range of issues, from building strong infrastructure to targeting our city's social challenges. Community issues have to be dealt with appropriately, comprising of all demographics of society including seniors and minorities.

He also advocates for socioeconomic efficiencies to be implemented in all department to save taxpayer money.

“This will put us on the path to making Thunder Bay a truly attractive, prosperous and safe place to live in.”

Also on Wednesday, Viktor Saari, Lawrence Timko and Frank Wazinski filed to run in the at-large race, which has grown to 25. Jamie Cressman upped the Current River contingent to four, joining Andy Wolff, incumbent Andrew Foulds and former Coun. Dick Waddington.

And it was a big day for the Lakehead District School Board slate, which grew by four. Sue-Doughty Smith, a long-time union official, Cheri Lappage, who fought to keep Hammarskjold High School Open, Ryan Moore and current trustee Jack Playford all filed their nomination papers.

Francis Veneruz joined the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board race.

The deadline to file is Friday at 2 p.m.
