Gull Bay members get ready for Thursday election

Members of the Gull Bay First Nation are getting ready to go to the polls to elect a new chief and council. The community, which has about 800 eligible voters, is located about two hours north of Thunder Bay off Highway 527.
Members of the Gull Bay First Nation are getting ready to go to the polls to elect a new chief and council. 

The community, which has about 800 eligible voters, is located about two hours north of Thunder Bay off Highway 527.  Band members are expected to vote Thursday.

Longtime chief Wilfred King is up against challengers for the top post. Those challengers include Hector King Jr., Miles Nowegijick and Oliver Poile. 

There are also 52 candidates running for the 11 available council positions. 

Polls open in Gull Bay at 9 a.m. Thursday, with results expected on Friday morning.
