The chief executive officer of Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay is stepping down after 11 years on the job.

Diane Mitchell recently went on medical leave, but at the time of that announcement Habitat officials indicated she was expected to return to her job next year.

On Monday it was announced that Mitchell will leave her post permanently, effective February 6, 2017, and will move to Vancouver.

Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay board chair Andrew Campbell called Mitchell an integral part of the organization's success and growth in serving families. "Under her leadership we have raised Habitat's profile, formed valuable partnerships and have several exciting projects rolling out in the coming years," he said.

Amber Prairie, fund development coordinator for Habitat Thunder Bay, has been serving as interim CEO. The board has now started the search for a permanent replacement for Mitchell.
