Habitat for Humanity Looking for Individuals, Families and Teams to Participate in Home Building Challenge
Thunder Bay, ON, October 21st, 2015 - Today, Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay made a sweet announcement, unveiling details of its 5th Annual Great Gingerbread House Build.
The event, to be held at the Valhalla Inn on Saturday November 7th, from 12-4pm, will gather twenty-eight teams to construct homes in support of local families in need.
New to the Great Gingerbread House Build this year, individuals and families will be invited to participate in the fun-filled traditional holiday event. Diane Mitchell, Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay CEO, says; “Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay is thrilled to expand the Great Gingerbread House Build to invite the entire community to participate in the challenge.
“Usually geared toward businesses and corporate teams, this year we want some new competition to join us, with all funding raised from the event staying in the community. Last year, the Great Gingerbread House Build raised more than $7,000 to support our local home builds and we look forward to raising more than ever this year.”
To participate, each team has to raise $500.00 to successfully acquire a building permit. Teams will be provided with icing, a gingerbread kit, and one pound of candy, with the challenge to construct the sweetest home of them all.
All participating teams will have the opportunity to purchase building violations from the Building Inspector, such as a 10 minute work stoppage and the “Bah Humbug” violation, in an effort to slow down teams from completing their build while contributing to event proceeds.
The 5th Annual Great Gingerbread House Build is being held in conjunction with Equipment World’s Little Diggers Day, offering free construction-themed activities for children and the ability to watch teams build gingerbread houses live on-site. Heather Syvistki, Equipment World Marketing Director, says; “Equipment World is proud to partner with Habitat for Humanity Thunder Bay to bring this initiative to the community and get the children involved and excited.
We’re looking forward to another great event and we’re excited to see the gingerbread houses the teams will create.”
