Hajdu taking over health portfolio

Thunder Bay Liberal MP Patty Hajdu has been named Canada's minister of health.

OTTAWA -- Thunder Bay Liberal MP Patty Hajdu has been named Canada's minister of health on Wednesday afternoon when Prime Minister Justin Trudeau unveiled his shuffled cabinet.

Hajdu, first elected in 2015 and then re-elected in October, spent four years in Trudeau's first cabinet, first and Minister of Status of Women and then as Minister of Employment, Workforce Development and Labour.

Hajdu will take over the portfolio from Moncton MP Ginette Pettipas Taylor, who was named health minister in August 2017.

Prior to entering politics, Hajdu served as executive director at Shelter House and prior to that was the Thunder Bay drug strategy co-ordinator
