Canada's new Minister of Status of Women is offering her thoughts on the future of the gender wage gap, and what her Ministry can do to close it.
According to a study authored by the World Economic Forum and published in the Toronto Star, it would take 118 years for the wage gender gap to be closed worldwide.
The report says on average, women make just over half of what men earn, worldwide.
The report also puts Canada 30th out of 145 countries in terms of gender wage equality, above Lithuania and below Cuba.
Minister Patty Hajdu says her office is taking a two-pronged approach, looking at women in skilled trades, and women in senior positions.
The study notes that while Canada has made investments in women's health care and education, this has not translated into more women in senior leadership in business or politics.
